How to Give Herbs to Horses
Herbs come in the form of raw herbs that are combined or glycerol (sugar based) extracts and can be infused in water, added to feed or hand feed.
Some herbs can be ground into a powder for ease of administration; however, the horse’s gut is programmed to digest the complex fibres of herbs so to release their active constituents.
So, the best way to administer most herbs is the dried herb rather than a powdered form. Our recommended dosage refers to the whole herb, rather than a powdered form
Our blended herbs have been taste tested by horses
Horses have a general curiosity and will often eat herbs presented to them, especially aerial parts, and leaves. For this reason, we suggest presenting the horse with herbs before adding to feed. Our blended herbs have been taste tested by horses.
Our experience is that a horse will take from the hand the herb that most suits their need and so we recommend buying a small size first. We also recommend that any feed changes are introduce gradually.
We are happy to chat with you about your horse’s needs.
All herbal extracts and herbal blends first require a consultation.
