Calendula is traditionally used to soothe irritated skin and wound healing. and has an anti-microbial, antifungal action. The flower (bulb and petals) contains antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Calendula cream can also be used for rashes and irritation.
In animal studies administration of calendula reduced inflammation and swelling and so can be useful for cysts. It is useful in skin disorders and to promote wound healing. It is traditionally used for gastric ulcers in humans.
Recommended dose: 12-15mL a day of glycetract extract (available after consultation).
The dried flowers can be steeped in vegetable oil for a week and and the resulting liquid added to a cream, or can be eaten by the horse raw.
Available in 1:2 herbal extract (glycetract) for use internally, cream for application to wounds or burns or available as raw herbs (dried flowers).
